White Inc picking on the wrong fights?

White Inc picking on the wrong fights?

There is no doubt that the Dalai Lama is a man of peace fighting for the freedom of a people living under forced rule by China. South Africa coming from a history of exiled movements for freedom that only survived mainly because of the generosity of some foreign governments should at the very least be sympathetic to the Tibetan cause.

Being sympathetic to a cause does not mean compromising potential economic gain for your country just so you can show that you support a certain cause or struggle for freedom for a particular people.

During our struggle for freedom there was a large number of governments that supported our movements like the ANC, PAC, etc but still did business with the South African Apartheid Government. They fully supported our cause but could not disregard their duty to their countries. Some countries even went as far as evicting ANC operatives so as not to offend their trade partner, the apartheid government.

Right now China is a very strategic trading partner to South Africa and as such will now and then exert pressure to influence certain decisions that might not necessarily be palatable to us but can have ramifications on continued trade partnership. This is not anything new. Its been practiced for as long as diplomatic relations have existed between countries.

The US utilize the same kind of pressure in influencing trade partners and those dependent on it for aid. It is interesting that when it is the US that uses it’s position of strength, no one seems to mind. We recently witnessed this when the UN Security Council voted on the Libyan no fly zone resolution.

It is rather sad though that our government doesn’t seem to have enough balls to simply deny the visa and state the reasons. The Dalai Lama was refused entry in 2009 and I’m not sure what the people that invited him would have thought has changed. The ANC government showed cowardice in dealing with the situation. If you have taken a position as a government, no matter unpopular, you own up to it and have a duty to inform your public about reasons for such.

It is even more sad that the White Inc would use this to score cheap political points. This simply reiterates the perception that the opposition and the White Inc in general are not interested in fighting for the betterment of the majority of our society. When will we see them staging night vigils against companies that abuse poor workers, against government for failing our children with the current state of our education? Why can’t we see headlines daily condemning government for not doing enough to curb crime and drug infestation in our townships (we only see these headlines when it’s white people that are victims)?

This simply smacks of hypocrisy and double standards. I think I can go as far as saying they actually do not care. If they did we would have seen them fighting for the poor of this country as they doing to get the Dalai Lama to attend a birthday party, of all things. The very same media that ‘s now making so much noise about someone attending a party is the same one that (rightfully) crucified government and some rich blacks for holding extravagant parties.

And for the Arch to say this Government is worse than the apartheid government does not even deserve comment but simply shows how this tireless activist has been tainted and compromised by the White Inc in his old age.

The White Inc always seem to bat for the wrong political side and then wonder why their political parties are not making inroads into the black electorate. They simply ignore to pick the fights that matter the most to the poor, who are the majority. The issue of the Dalai Lama is important but means nothing to a jobless, hungry Joe in the township.

There is a lot that the ANC does wrong that people should make noise about. If they really have to constantly demonise the ruling party, could they at least use issues that will change people’s lives? Why is it always that the White Inc through it’s media always make the most noise about ANC failures that really do have much impact on the poor and leave out what the ANCshould be really hammered about.

The visit by the Dalai Lama, while he is a great man fighting for a just cause, will not do anything for most people except maybe make one 80 year old Archbishop very happy on his birthday. Big deal.

Let me start by saying SA as a sovereign state has a right to decide who visits its countryand under what circumstances regardless of who invited that person and I might add regardless of that person’s status in the world. The govt has not pronounced on the reasons for the delay.Any speculation as to the govt reasons is tantamount to second guessing our govt an exercise that is futile. There is no doubt in my mind that the majority of people in Tebet do not want to be under Chinese rule for historic reason and the brutality of the chinese government. The question I am asking myself is why are people so passionate about this particular visa” refusal”? Who is the Lama in relationship to our struggle. Do we have a record of him openly supporting us particularly when the likes of Magaret Thatcher and Ronald Reagan were not supporting our struggle for freedom? If he never lifted a finger why does he want to benefit from the fruits of our freedom which he had not part in helping bring about when he could have atleast issued a statement in our support.Furthermore who elected the Lama to lead the people of Tibet There is a big cry for a chinese wall to be built between the state and the party. Now for some strange reason the Arch wants the ANC to interfere in a purely administrative issue so that he can have his friend attending a party in the mist of our poverty. How r this lectures and celebration contributing to the upliftment of the poor. When the good arch does not get his way he disown the government which has been consistantly voted by the majority of the people dispite his threat in the previous election not to vote. There r many personal favours I would like to get from the state that I don’t think I will ever get them. Not that I ever asked. I do not disown the government bcos that would be highly disrepectfull to the people who put it there. The Arch must decide whether he is retired or is still an activist. It seems to me that he could not wait for the opportunity to be in the headlines again protesting about something the govt has not done. As far as I am concerned he is a perpertual winjer. At some point as a marathon runner when you reach the finish line accept your medal and go home to celebrate your achievement otherwise you deeds become subject of ridicule like that foolish monkey in uMasihambisane(for those of you who had the misfortune of stadying Bantu Education.

Am I getting it right? Anyone who (correctly) points out that the ANC is an institution that is dramatically sliding down the rungs of moral high ground is part of White Inc? Does that include the most vociferous voice in the Dalai Lama episode viz. The Arch?

I’m afraid I must give this blog a big fat ‘F’ for irrelevance. This is smokescreen politics at its worst. Could have been written by one of the dozens of lie peddlers (spin doctors) in govt. Instead of applying your faculties to the correctness (or not) of the govt’s conduct in this matter, you have deliberately chosen to side-step the issue and conjured up an imaginary enemy; White Inc.

Don’t look now; but you sound like one of Napoleon’s lieutenants in ‘Animal Farm’.

Ngcobo, I have written elsewhere on this blog about how the ANC is failing the country through it’s corruption and other ills and this does not make me part of the white Inc. The white Inc is not about the and but rather about protecting white interest using resources mainly gained through apartheid privilege and patronage. Some in the anc are part of the white Inc! And yes, the white Inc does exist and controls most of our economy, media and the land.

One has to be frank about the reasons why the and won’t allow the Dalai lama here. Whether they are right or wrong, the government put diplomatic relations with a strategic government of china above an invited guest to a birthday party.

Is has absolutely nothing to do with morality (which honestly isn’t generally that high in the political field all round).

I just went back to read your comment Ngcobo. I find it alarming that a person of your influence will find another person’s opinion irrelevant simply because you don’t agree with them. What you see as smokescreen politics is how I and a number of black people feel and. The fact that this does not fit in with the liberal consensus or the ruling party jargon doesn’t make it irrelevant. It will also help matters if you read with an objective mind instead of emotion.

You can not prescribe to anyone as to how they should apply their mind.

“Can a theocratic feudal overlord with dubious democratic credentials who fled his country with 60 tons of treasure be a ‘freedom fighter’? Jeremy Cronin asked about the Dalai Lama in 2010.

White Inc only care when it suit them. Madiba never apologised nor back down for his relationship with Gaddafi and Castro and our economy survived. Thats what I principles. Current leadership show us your principles.

Looking at the event surrounding the Dalai Lama it is evident that the (Arch) deliberately invited this controversial figure in order to gain some political muscle over the ruling party. As stated above that he had previously had his visa application not approved he should have foreseen that the possibility of having it approved were next to zero.

I also believe that the ANC led government should have not frustrated the process and gave a responce instead of hiding behind processes. The nation is bound to speculate on what the issue was and had they responded promply and precisely I don’t think it would have gone as far as it went.

The Arch is a controvertial leader and as you well put it Ximba he has to amke a distiction whether he is retired or still politically active. His atturances and frustrations to me are understandable because the process had been compromised and seemed as if people in hire echelons of government were pulling the strings some what.

The undecisiveness of the current leadership is spilling into day to day runnings of this country and it is beginning to conpromise the services that are to be provided to the citizens and foreign people alike. I love the ANC with passion but I also should not be oblivious to the wrongs that the party is perpetuating against it’s citizens. The subject of the Tibetan people is a sad one but I do not think that the visit of their spiritual leader to SA would have had any resolution to their situation but will have repercussions in our economy as China is a strategic trading partner.

On the other hand Deputy President was summoned to China last week when this issue had already broke and the trip was disguised as some business trip to me it was clear that he had been summoned to appear and told straight not to allow the Dalai Lama visa to the country. It’s safe to assume that because of the timing of the visit to China.

We on the other hand are left to wonder as to the discussions that went on in those meetings in China. The Goverment has to catch a wake up at this point because we are not following blindly and the people will at some point get tired of this circus. That’s my take.

I think we can all agree that this visa debacle was handled badly to say the least. The Zuma administration seems to be afraid to take a stand unlike the Mbeki administration. What they fail to realise and these are wise old men, is that not everyone is always gonna be 100% happy with their decisions all the time. So its always important to just pick a side/stance and run with it.

Having said all that, the man was coming here for a party. He was not seeking asylum so the Arch must chill.
